Why this specialty and why now?
When I was doing OB-GYN [training] in Vermont, a friend of a friend was working in Uganda at an HIV clinic. I went to Uganda for two months and loved it. I was so inspired by the people I met. They’re completely hopeful. I left there feeling I really wanted to work with women…[in] the context of HIV. I’m still doing some international work and I’m involved in research and clinical trials, but most of my time here is providing care to pregnant woman with HIV. People know that when someone is pregnant and has an HIV diagnosis, they can call me. It’s an incredibly hopeful area…and a wonderful thing. I take care of about 40 pregnant women [with HIV] a year.
Any other interests?
