Businesses Offer Helping Hand in Wake of Greenwood Explosion

This month, Seattle magazine spotlights Greenwood on our cover as one of our city’s hottest neighborhoods. We were excited to celebrate this community that’s experiencing a renaissance and are now heartbroken, along with the rest of the city, for the loss of beloved neighborhood gathering spots, Mr Gyros, Quick Stop and Neptune Coffee.

We are grateful that no one was seriously injured. According to KING 5, nine firefighters were taken to Harborview Medical Center with minor cuts and abrasions and were released at 8 a.m.

This photo we took in January of Neptune Coffee and Family Cyclery was never published, but celebrates the warmth and friendliness this neighborhood represents. In true Seattle spirit, nearby businesses are rallying to support: Greenwood’s Chocolati Cafe, which was damaged in the blast, offered free coffee to firefighters this morning and Chuck’s Hop Shop is offering a beer on the house to neighboring businesses and emergency response workers today.

Greenwood needs support more than ever now and Seattle is responding in droves. Stay tuned for more information on what you can do to help. We will update this post throughout the day as we receive more information.

A Fundly has also been launched to help Greenwood businesses in the wake of the explosion. According to the Phinneywood.com neighborhood blog, the Phinney Neighborhood Association has fundraising efforts in the works. Check the association’s page for more details on how to help.

KING 5 reports that the Taproot Theatre will hold an all-day fundraiser Thursday, March 10, at Naked City Brewery & Taphouse. Here is the Facebook page with all the details.
