Four bottles of cassis smith wine.

In March, Charles Smith, Washington’s most famous independent winemaker and owner of the largest urban winery on the West Coast, will release four Italian varietal wines grown in eastern Washington.

The four wines – a primitivo, a sangiovese and two barberas – will be filed under the label, Casa Smith. They all come from small lots on single-vineyards and are hand-picked and foot-stomped. They will retail for $25-$35 and be available in March at Charles Smith Wines Jet City, 1136 S Albro Place in Georgetown.

We haven’t sampled the goods yet, but here are the details, direct from his people:

2012 Casa Smith Jack’s Barbera: A combination of 20-year-old vines followed by 26 months of barrel aging creates a deeply complex wine with great depth and length.

2014 Casa Smith Cerva Barbera: An earthbound wine with savory layers, beautiful deep color and a mouthful of complex fruit and spice.

2014 Casa Smith Cinghiale Sangiovese: An aroma and flavor that depicts earth, mineral, Italian cherry, salumi, and a handful of dried, savory herbs.

2014 Casa Smith Porcospino Primitivo: Rich, dark, explosive, ripe, unrestrained; a destined classic for spaghetti, red sauce and meatballs.
