Owners Shawn Mead and Lauren Feldman, who’ve worked at several places in town, including The Walrus and the Carpenter and the late Campagne (now Marché), where they met, have somehow reworked the former Herfy’s Burgers into a serene oasis, with white walls and zinc counters, and windows that wrap diners in light and provide unmatched Upper Fremont people watching. For breakfast, enjoy tender scones, Olympia Coffee Roasting Company brew and warm, seasonal fruit galettes ($4). For lunch, feast on a medley of raw garden veggies in a bright cumin-lemon vinaigrette or dig into a lentil salad (around $7)—so delicious, you’ll wonder how they did it—topped with roasted beets, with a glass of French red wine alongside. You’ll leave Vif feeling satisfied, yet somehow lighter than when you walked in. If only every neighborhood could have a place just like it. Breakfast, lunch and early dinner (closes before 7 p.m.) Tue.–Sun. Fremont, 4401 Fremont Ave. N; 206.557.7357;a href=”http://www.vifseattle.com” target=”_blank” vifseattle.com/anbsp;/p
