It’s National S’mores Day on Sunday, August 10 — do you know what you’re doing? If not, we’re here to help. Here’s how you can celebrate this wacky holiday and bring out your inner child (with a twist) this whole weekend. Welcome to Seattle S’mores-ology 101.

1)  The world is filled with s’mores hacks and people are really pushing the boundaries on the typical graham cracker, marshmallow, and Hershey’s chocolate bar combo. Try the age-old classic childhood recipe in a new light with this finger-licking S’more’s pie recipe from Queen Anne entertaining expert and foodie, Heather Christo.

After you do that, opt for this mouth-watering kitchen experiment or try your hand at these you’ve-got-to-be-kidding-me-good s’mores ideas on Seattle Mag’s Pinterest board.

2)  If you’re like some of my friends and would rather clean toilets than cook, worry not! Seattle is the place to be on National S’mores Day…or weekend! Nothing beats someone else making your s’mores for you. These two famed Seattle sweets shops are doing it big this year:

  • Check out Hot Cakes Molten Chocolate Cakery in Ballard all weekend long for s’mores-y treats. It will be featuring its notable S’more Cookies and Milkshake and the S’mores Molten Cake from today to Sunday. Then on Sunday, between 11 a.m. – 8 p.m., Hot Cakes will set up a grill outside and treat you to roasted to-order sidewalk s’mores! Sunday is supposed to be a beautifully clear day to be outside, too–can’t beat that!
  • Local chocolate haven, Theo Chocolate, may give Hershey’s a run for its money with its quirky spin on s’mores today and tomorrow at the Theo Chocolate Factory. Don’t miss out on house-made marshmallows and graham crackers with a peculiar selection of chocolates. With chocolate flavors like coconut curry, chai, and hazelnut crunch, I know I’ll be there for some $4 s’mores! Plus, this is your chance to be extra sweet as $1 of every $4 you spend goes to Food Lifeline in an attempt to end hunger in Washington state.

3)  Ready for a s’mores “staycation” this weekend? Make a firepit in your backyard and do s’mores the good old-fashioned way. This may sound a lot harder than it has to be.  According to Seattlite, Lyanda Haupt, all it takes is a quick and affordable trip to Target. This way, not only will you have yourself a permanent marshmallow roasting area, but also an inviting ambience for social gatherings. Fire-pits are one of the trendiest outdoor landscaping features these days–your friends will definitely be impressed. Some Seattle- and Washington-area locales to get materials or more information are: Sutter Home and Hearth, West Seattle Nursery, Shepherd Stoneworks, Seattle Luxe, and Summer House Furniture. Have fun, but be safe!

4)  Do it right and go camping! Get away this weekend to one of these marvelous and not-too-far locales or check out this informational camping guide which tells you where to go based on what kind of camper you are. Don’t forget to take your Hot Cakes s’mores making kit with you.

5)  What about the rare breed of people who just don’t love s’mores but still want to have a great weekend? Well, you still have a s’moregasbord of activities to do without the s’mores! Check out these other uber fun Seattle events going on this weekend: Seattle Street Food Festival, Yppah Katie Kate free concert, Obliteride and Urinetown.

Happy s’moresing.
