Sewing shouldn’t be just for pros—or just for those who own fancy equipment. So say the creators of Made, a fully equipped sewing studio and retail space in Greenwood (8408 Greenwood Ave. N; 206.552.9632; madesewing.com). Open since November, Made offers plenty of sewing machines to rent, worktables to spread out on and, in case you left them at home, scissors, pins and other tools. (The studio’s hourly rate is $10 and includes use of sewing machines and other equipment; longer-term memberships are available.)

More importantly (especially for those of us who can’t sew a straight line), Made’s staff is on hand to help (and console?). You can also stretch your stitch wizardry by taking classes, including this month’s “DIY Animal Factory,” in which kids take apart stuffed animals and resew them into fantastical creatures, and a garment reproduction class for duplicating well-loved clothes that are no longer wearable. Not limited to needle and thread, Made also offers fabric-dyeing and -painting classes, tailor-made for budding tailors and clothes designers.
