Hello, summer! Wine and sunshine this weekend in Madrona

Bottlehouse hosts its third annual Summer Rose Days June 6

The good people of Bottlehouse in Madrona are not just wine merchants; they are wine curators.

They know, for instance, that Yakima Valley wines pairs delightfully well with fly fishing, which is why they’ve been known to organize a trip combining the two sports (what, you’ve never heard of wine taster’s elbow?) later this month.

If you can’t make it to that outing, opt for Bottlehouse’s uber-popular Summer Rose Days from 5 to 9 p.m. on June 6. Now in its third year, the event is devoted to another natural pairing: Crisp, zippy pink wines and sunshine on the garden patio. They’ll be featuring 25 of this season’s best roses including several of my favorites from Washington: Gilbert, Kerloo, Wind Rose Cellars and Treveri’s Sparkling Rose.

Add to that a grilled cheese bar and live music from percussionist Arturo Rodriguez and guitarist Lief Totusek and DJ Shane and you know where I’ll be this weekend. Doors open at 5 p.m. but VIPs ($35) can snag prime spots with an earlier entrance at 3:30 p.m. To purchase advanced tickets for $22, visit Brown Paper Tickets.

Happy early summer.
