Here Are the Top 5 Things I Ate Last Week

A week of eating summed up in 5 snapshots

It was another week of marathon eating and most of it was good.  Here are some of the highlights of my last 7 days of feeding:

Chicken & waffles at The Burgundian
Before eating this for breakfast ($13) on Friday, I wasn’t really a chicken and waffles kind of gal. But this dish is life/breakfast habit changing. Served with a side of sausage gravy, bourbon maple syrup and apple butter/sauce, it’s some of the best fried chicken I’ve had in Seattle recently. And the brilliance here is that the chicken is served in strips, so it’s really easy to eat. This might be my new favorite casual brunch spot in Seattle. Oh, and get a side of eggs ($2) to put on top of the waffle, because who really needs to eat twice in one day?

Salmon dog at Damn the Weather
The classic Seattle dog gets fancified with a salmon link at this new Pioneer Square cocktail bar. Topped with cream cheese, onion, salsa verde and served in the softest, pillowiest homemade “everything” bun, this is the late night snack to beat all others. It’s $10 and tiny. Getting two is ideal, but spendy.

Peach buttermilk ice cream at Palace Kitchen
I’m not a fan of fruity desserts, but this bowl of peach ice cream ($7) bursting with chunks of fresh peaches was heavenly!

Smoked duck breast sandwich at E. Smith Mercantile
The Pioneer Square shop just launched lunch Sept. 2. The petite menu features a handful of foccacia sandwiches and salads and a longer list of “lunchtails.” The duck breast with fig jam vinaigrette and baby arugula ($5.50) won me over. Especially if you top it with the homemade slaw, punctuated with a little cumin and some peppers.

House smoked ahi tuna carpaccio at The Pink Door
This subterranean Post Alley darling is often overlooked by locals, who usually jut come to hang out on the deck when the sun is out. But the food here is no joke. Despite the crostini that is more garnish than delicious, the smoked salmon ($11) topped with baby frisée, pickled shaved fennel and watermelon radish is a perfect bar snack, because let’s face it, deck dining is dunzo for 2014.

Wild Card: 3-C Lollie at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
I was too distracted by the gazillions of chocolate-dipped treats to care at the time, but I imagine the “C” in 3-C stands for cookies, caramel and chocolate. Two Oreos are dipped in caramel and chocolate and then topped with the those always irresistible sprinkles and served on a stick ($5). The RMCF is a tourist-centric confections shop near Pike Place Market, but locals know you can’t walk out of this place empty handed. Why would you want to do that to yourself, anyway?
