!–paging_filter–p“No matter how many times you’ve been through it,” says Dr. Jane Uhlir, Executive Director, Women Infants, and Clinical Process Improvement for Swedish Medical Center, “having a baby is one of life’s biggest challenges.”br /Making that adventure less stressful is the goal for the new Lytle Center for Pregnancy Newborns.br /The 5,000 square foot center is named for Chuck and Karen Lytle, prominent community philanthropists who provided the initial major gift for the center’s construction and whose five grandchildren were all born at Swedish. Opened last summer, the center provides education, comprehensive care and support services for mothers and their newborns, from pregnancy through the first few months of a new baby’s life. Services include a clinic for new mom and well-baby check-ups a few days after birth to make sure everything is going smoothly. br /The center also offers breast feeding support, classes on childbirth and parenting, exercise classes for pregnant and post-partum moms, meeting areas for family members, social workers and support groups focusing on postpartum mood disorders, and a baby changing and weighing station. There’s even a covered outside playground for toddlers and children. “It’s the go-to place for moms and dads—and grandparents and siblings—expecting a new baby,” Uhlir says./p
