Must Screen
Northwest Film Forum’s Local Sightings Film Festival
(9/24 to 10/3, times vary) Stay abreast of new work from local up-and-comers at this annual film event, which showcases the diverse perspectives of Northwest filmmakers. This year’s lineup features stories about a male escort turned deli owner (The Sandwich Nazi), a funny girl with a death wish (Killing June), a Christian fundamentalist road trip (Children), a Nepalese girl striving for an education (Drawing the Tiger) and the legendary guardian of the Samish people (Maiden of Deception Pass).

Must Get Cheesy
Washington Artisan Cheesemakers Festival
Saturday (9/26, 1 to 5 p.m.) Connect with local artisan and farmstead cheesemakers at the Seattle Design Center to learn about the art of cheesemaking, storing and pairing, plus sample dozens of styles to discover how your palate has evolved, whether you prefer soft-ripened or washed rind; raw milk or blue.

Must See
Velocity Dance Center’s Seattle Dance Showcase
(9/24 to 9/26, 7 p.m.) Part of Velocity’s big fall kick-off, this showcase is somewhat of a tapas plate of locally crafted contemporary dance, highlighting memorable moments from the past season and offering tempting tidbits of what’s to come. In short: It’s delicious.

Must Ooh La La
Burlesco DiVino at the Triple Door
(9/30 to 10/3, times vary) The sultry stars of Burlesco DiVino: Wine in Rome are guaranteed to steam up the stage of The Triple Door as they take a hot and bothered audience on an erotic journey to Rome in the early ’60s.

Must Stroll
Last Weekend for the WA State Fair
(Through 9/27, times vary) People have been “doing the Puyallup” since 1900, and though the name has been changed to the more staid Washington State Fair, more than 1 million visitors are expected to attend the rural extravaganza of blue-ribbon food, breathtaking rides and rodeo broncs.
