A recent article on Fitness Magazine’s website listed the top ten healthiest foods on the planet. Salmon came in at number five, two spots ahead of avocados at number seven.

While it’s no secret salmon is delicious and good for you, you might not realize just how beneficial it can be for your health—it is a great source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids, which have been linked to reduced risks of depression, heart disease and cancer.

Throw in the benefits of avocados—which can help lower cholesterol and your chances of heart disease—and you have a recipe of which your doctor would be proud, not to mention one you can make in only 10 minutes. That is exactly what Queen Anne-based food expert and former chef Heather Christo did with her broiled salmon steaks topped with creamy avocado sauce

“Eating these gorgeous salmon steaks was no sacrifice sat all,” Christo said. “Anything that can be made in 10 minutes that is of this caliber is perfect in my book.”

Ingredients:

  • 1 recipe Creamy Avocado Sauce
  • 4 salmon steaks
  • 1 lime, zest and juice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • kosher salt
  • Creamy Avocado Sauce:

  • 1/3 cup fresh lime juice
  • ½ cup fresh cilantro
  • 1 jalapeno, chopped
  • 1 avocado, peeled and seeded
  • ¼ yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • Kosher salt

Directions:

  1. Combine all of the ingredients in the bowl of a food processor and puree until you have a well combined sauce. Season to taste with kosher salt and set aside.
  2. Preheat the oven to broil.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the lime juice, zest and olive oil.
  4. Place the salmon steaks on a sheet pan and pour the lime juice and oil over the steaks. Sprinkle them generously with kosher salt.

  6. Serve the steaks hot with a generous scoop of Creamy Avocado Sauce.
