If you thought Tom Douglas’ recent restaurant domination of South Lake Union meant the big guy was done with downtown, think again. TanakaSan, an Asian fusion restaurant named for Eric Tanaka, Tom Douglas Restaurants’ (TDR) executive chef and partner (but headed by Brian Walczyk, who’s moving over from his head-chef gig at Brave Horse Tavern), has just opened. It’s expected to be the cornerstone of the 10,000-square-foot, mixed-use ASSEMBLY HALL, at the base of the new Via6 Apartments on the corner of Sixth and Lenora. TanakaSan’s menu includes ramen, rice and egg bowls, robata (Japanese grilled skewers) and “charbroiled mochi cakes,” a curated sake list, and a variety of local and Japanese beers. Also: outdoor seating with fire pits!

In the remaining (ample) square footage: Assembly Hall Juice and Coffee, serving freshly squeezed juices and smoothies, espresso and drip coffee and pastries; and HOME REMEDY, TDR’s first foray into the burgeoning specialty grocery market. Along with wine, beer, gourmet cheeses, olive oils and the like, Home Remedy will offer a tour de Douglas of prepared foods: You’ll be able to pick up Seatown pot pies, Cuoco lasagna, Brave Horse pretzels, Lola spreads and more. 2121 Sixth Ave.; tomdouglas.com
