After 77 years, Ivar’s Acres of Clams has received a most significant and overdo face lift. On July 1 you can be among the first to check it out.

We’re talking a new interior with expanded seating, a pimped out patio, and a state-of-the-art kitchen from which executive chef Chris Garr will debut a host of new menu items, including honey-cured smoke scallops, cornmeal and parmesan-encrusted razor clams, and Ivar’s style paella with saffron risotto.

Ivar’s was closed for 273 days due to the Seawall Construction Project, which has resulted in significant improvements to the 55,000-square foot pier as well. Inside the restaurant, however, you’ll see a transformation: Original exposed beams, industrial lighting and walnut-blasted, fir-lined ceiling pay homage to the wharf. There is now seating for more than 600 guests throughout the restaurant, from the dining room to the central bar and private dining space called the Kalakala Ferry.

Of all the renovations, we’re most excited about the new outdoor deck with fireside tables and retractable awnings for dining al fresco, and given this heat wave, shaded dining, if need be. The adjoining Fish Bar has a trendy walk-up window, too, for quick-serve items from the kitchen.

And don’t worry, you can still feed French fries to the seagulls.

Starting July 1, Ivar’s Acres of Clams will be open for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursdays and Sundays; and until 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Happy hour is offered nightly in the Clamdigger Lounge from 3 p.m. to close.
