As if Bellevue’s The Shops at the Bravern wasn’t a dapper enough shopping experience with the likes of Jimmy Choo, Ferragamo, and Louis Vuitton all sharing its walls, Italian fashion label Gucci opened a sizeable, 8,000-square-foot flagship store there this past spring. In honor of Throwback Thursday, we wanted to not only get a quick historical lowdown on Gucci’s beginnings, but also take a look at some fabulous fashionistas from back in the day who were serious aficionados of the brand.

It all started with a humble, immigrant hotel worker by the name of Guccio Gucci who had a discerning eye for good fashion. Inspired by the gorgeous luggage and attachés that the hotel’s most affluent English guests would tote along, he returned home to Florence, Italy with a vision. If you’ve ever visited Florence, you know that skilled artisans and superior quality materials are abundant there. Guccio joined English, classy and sensible style with Tuscan craftmanship and thus Guccio’s first shop of classically designed leather goods was born circa 1920.

Guccio and his three sons later expanded into Rome and Milan where the handbags, the iconic Gucci loafer, silks and other exquisite accessories took flight. The company flourished and some top A-listers donning the gear only helped to develop Gucci into the international icon that it is today.

Prepare to ooh and aah at the Gucci vintage on these VIPs.
