Recently awarded 2018 Best Documentary Feature Film by the San Diego Film Awards, the new film “Making Fun—The Story of Funko” is set to premiere on Netflix May 24.

The documentary follows the story of the worldwide marvel that is Funko and how it went from humble beginnings in a garage in Redmond to seeing its Pop! Figures take over the pop culture product industry.

Filmmakers from Eddie Grace Arts & Film, including company founder David Romero, who produced and directed the film, spent two years traveling the globe to tell the stories of the individuals from Vietnam, the Philippines, New York City, and Everett who helped shape the company.

The film also looks at how pop culture has spread on a global scale and the unique passion of the collectibles industry.

“This film is a testament to the passion of our dedicated fan base, said Brian Mariotti, Funko CEO. “We are incredibly proud to bring so many people together to share their passions and to share our own journey to becoming one of the leading creators and innovators of licensed pop culture products today.”

Also in recent Funko news: The company released a new group of Pop! Vinyls when Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War hit theaters, and just last week announced the launch of “5 Star,” a new brand and collection of vinyl collectible figures, starting with characters from Harry Potter.

And in case you forgot, the 20-year-old company’s first retail location opened less than a year ago at its new headquarters building in downtown Everett at 2802 Wetmore Ave.
