Must See
EMP’s Nirvana Exhibit
Opens Saturday (4/16 – 4/11/2013) – No, it’s probably not what Kurt Cobain would have wanted, but we’re nonetheless stoked about the new Nirvana exhibit. With smashed guitars, Cobain’s handwritten lyrics and, yes, the legendary yellow cardigan, EMP celebrates the band while tracing its influences and influencees. For an encore, check out the 250-page companion book published by Fantagraphics. Times and prices vary. EMP, 325 Fifth Ave.; 206.770.2700; empsfm.org

Must Listen
The Head and The Heart
Saturday (4/16) –
Since hitting the indie rock scene in 2009, Seattle sextet The Head and the Heart has been rocketing skyward, thanks to its beguiling and genre-bending sound (we named it Seattle’s Best New Alt-Country Band last year, but alt-folk and indie-pop descriptors also apply). The execs at Sub Pop Records were so impressed by the self-titled album The Head and The Heart self-released in 2010 that in January they added the band to the label’s roster, and this month (April 16) will re-release the original album—remastered and augmented with the crowd-pleaser song “Rivers and Roads.” The band celebrates its new Sub Pop–ularity with several shows this month. On April 16, Record Store Day (when everyone should buy something at an indie record store), the band will play intimate shows at both Easy Street in Lower Queen Anne and Sonic Boom on Capitol Hill. On April 29, the band will take over Showbox at the Market with its infectious sound. For show details, visit theheadandtheheart.com

Must Taste
Nick Cave Soundsuits Menu at TASTE Restaurant
Inspired by Nick Cave’s wildly colorful head-to-toe “suits” on display now at SAM, TASTE restaurant has created a menu aimed at evoking the palate through a spring menu that playfully gives nod to Cave’s work. As if you needed an excuse to revist Cave’s work, now you cap off your return visit to SAM with a “Button” butter cookie and “Spring Couture” macaroons. Or head straight to the bar and try the“Cave In” cocktail made of pepper vodka, blue curacao, blood orange and mango puree.
