Band of the week

This week, guitarist Peter Richards of indie rock trio Dude York takes a crack at our questions. His Hardly Art-signed group will release its new John Goodmanson (Sleater-Kinney, Bikini Kill) and Cody Votolato (The Blood Brothers)-produced album, 'Sincerely,' this Friday

"As an artist in Seattle, I pledge that with every bit of my life energy, I will continue to give more music to the world for the purpose of spreading more aloha and, as I sing in the song “First Avenue,” 'reteaching the world to love.'"

The new album is about a quiet black princess who must follow her heart back to a tetherball court

Recommended if you like: Herbie Hancock, Michael McDonald, Nirvana

She's been known to sing with Damien Jurado and sounds like Joni Mitchell!

"We have the responsibility to use [our music] in a way that's empowering, positive, uplifting, and socially and culturally equitable, especially to those who identify as POC, LGBTQ, Muslim, Jewish, and female in a country whose newfound government wants to silence them."
