!–paging_filter–pTwo weeks ago, we wrote about the best a href=”http://\/\/seattlemag.com/4-drinks-have-while-watching-monster-movies ” target=”_blank”drinks to have while watching monster movies/a. But they weren’t nearly enough to cover the complete Halloween party season, which deserves much more in the way of scary (but not in taste) libation suggestions. So below are three more excellently eerie drink ideas. But as emtoday/em is the big day, you may not be up to making a new snazzy scary drink at home, so I’ve also made an excellent suggestion for drinking out in Seattle tonight./p
pstrongDemon of Destiny: /strongThis demonic drink features a whole host of haunting flavors, making it ideal for tonight–as long as you can stop at a good liquor store on your way home to stock up. The recipe is from a href=”http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Spirits-Concoctions-Starring-Bourbon/dp/B005I…” target=”_blank”emDark Spirits/em/a./p
pemIce cubes/emembr1-1/2 ounces bourbon (a href=”http://2barspirits.com/” target=”_blank”2bar Spirits/a new bourbon, made in SoDo, is perfect here)br1/2 ounce absinthe (a href=”http://www.pacificdistillery.com” target=”_blank”Pacifique absinthe/a is the way to go)br3/4 ounce sweet vermouthbr1/4 ounce maraschino liqueurbr1/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juicebrLemon twist for garnish/em/p
p1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway full with ice cubes. Add the bourbon, absinthe, sweet vermouth, maraschino liqueur, and lemon juice. Shake the demons away./p
p2. Strain into a cocktail glass, twist the lemon over the glass, let it drop into the glass./p
pstrongVampire of the Vigna Nuova:/strong This uses Seattle’s own a href=”http://3howls.com/blood_orange_vodka.php” target=”_blank”3 Howls Blood Orange vodka/a, an enchanting naturally-flavored spirit that not only has blood orange notes, but also cardamom and rose. In this drink (made, I might say, specifically for Halloween 2013), it takes the place of gin in a Negroni, though the ratios are altered a bit for balance. The name has a historical connection, too, as Via della Vigna Nuova is a street in Florence right around the corner from where the Negroni was invented, way back when./p
pemIce cubes/emembr2 ounces 3 Howls Blood Orange vodkabr3/4 ounce Camparibr1/2 ounce sweet vermouth/em/p
p1. While wearing a neck protector, fill a cocktail shaker or mixing glass halfway full with ice cubes. Add everything. Stir well./p
p2. Strain this vampire into a cocktail glass. Maybe it’s safest to eat something with garlic while drinking./p
pstrongDrunken Spider: /strongThe recipe for this tipsy arachnid-themed bev comes from the awesome and appetizing blog a href=”http://www.talkoftomatoes.com/2007/10/its-that-bootiful-time-of-year-again/” target=”_blank”Talk of Tomatoes/a, on which writer Janelle covers farm, food and frolicking–and Halloween drinks. Be sure to pop over and see the spooky pic of this cocktail as well. It uses licorice strings in a delightfully unnerving way, along with Cream de Cassis and a few other choice ingredients.embrbrIce cubesbr1 ounce Cream de Cassisbr1-1/2 ounces vodka (if you can get it, trya href=”http://copperworksdistilling.com/” target=”_blank” Copperworks vodka/a)br1/2 ounce triple secbr1/2 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juicebr1/2 ounce pomegranate juicebrLicorice strings, for garnish/em/p
p1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway full with ice cubes. Add everything but the licorice. Shake well./p
p2. Strain into a cocktail glass. Drape the licorice legs spookily into the drink./p
pstrongThe Blood Hound Cocktail at the a href=”http://www.sextonseattle.com” target=”_blank”Sexton /aHowl-o-Ween Party in Ballard:/strong This is drink to have if going out for Halloween, and you can only have it at Sexton, which is throwing a party all centered around local distillery 3 Howls (also mentioned above). Expect music, a costume contest (with prizes!) and custom cocktails mixed with 3 Howls spirits, including the Blood Orange Cocktail. This drink boasts a combination of 3 Howls Blood Orange vodka, lemon juice, Simple Syrup, Cointreau, Peychaud’s bitters and an in-house hibiscus tincture that any ghoul or ghost would love./p
