MUST TASTE
Vashon Island Ciderfest
Saturday (10/9) -
Cider house fans (and no, there won’t be any Toby Maguire spotting) should put on their best fall fleeces and take the short ferry ride to Vashon Island this Saturday, October 9 for the third annual CiderFest (vashonciderfest.org) featuring 30 different hard ciders from the Northwest region’s cidermakers like Finnriver Farm & Cidery, Tieton Cider Works, and Wildfire as well as some international houses in France and England. While the cider tasting may be for adults-only, kids can watch chickens show off their plumage at the Chicken Beauty Contest, see demonstrations on cider pressing, gobble up at the BBQ dinner and work it all off at the Barn Dance. 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Free for events held at the Vashon Village Green in Town Center, $12-$25 for BBQ and tasting at Misty Isle Farms. vashonciderfest.org for more details.

MUST SEE
A Doctor in Spite of Himself
Through October 10 -
It's your last weekend to check out the Intiman’s production of Molière’s 17th-century comedy, A Doctor in Spite of Himself, starring new to town, Tony-Award nominated actor Daniel Breaker. “I’m eager to work on my clowning techniques,” Breaker says of A Doctor. This new adaptation is directed by Christopher Bayes—one of Breaker’s former teachers at Juilliard, where Baker earned a B.F.A. in 2002. The plot involves a woodcutter with a penchant for drinking who’s mistaken for a reputable doctor. The script is based on improvised scenes, and Breaker promises some singing and some slapstick. Times and prices vary. Intiman Theatre, 201 Mercer St.; 206.269.1900; intiman.org

MUST SEE
Picassos at SAM: Opening Weekend
Dates Vary (10/8–1/17/2011) - If the economy ruined your plans for an arty exploration of France this fall, take heart. France (or some of its weightiest artwork, at least) is coming to a museum near you. The Musée National Picasso, housed in a 17th-century mansion in the Marais district of Paris, is getting a three-years-long facelift, which means that 150 of the master’s seminal works will be traveling for the first (and perhaps only) time. The museum is home to Picasso’s personal collection of his work; the SAM show includes masterpieces from every period of his prolific career. We might not always have Paris, but for a few months we’ll have some of its most sublime works of art. Times and prices vary. Seattle Art Museum, 1300 First Ave.; 206.654.3100; seattleartmuseum.org
