Combatting Nature Deficit Disorder

Ever wondered how to get your kid away from the Xbox and out into nature? Let Seattle Parks help with some ideas and inspiration. Following in the footsteps of author Richard Louv, who wrote the influential 2005 book Last Child in the Woods and coined the phrase "nature deficit disorder," Parks naturalists will showcase some of their favorite techiques and places around Seattle to help kids reconnect with the natural world. The adults-only event, entitled "Sharing Nature with Your Children," is on Wednesday evening March 10 at 7 p.m. at Discovery Park's Environmental Learning Center ($7, reserve a spot by calling206.386.4236).
