The BMW's were thick on the ground at McCaw Hall last night at a gathering of Seattle's most revered surgeons, doctors and global-health superstars. Chauffered by sponsor BMW to the event were some of Seattle mag's Top Doctors Hall of Fame inductees--doctors so amazing, they've been chosen by their peers as the very best for ten years in a row.

For Nathan Kaiser, it's all about the hard work of his grandfather and his grandfather's fathers before him. Five generations of his family worked the land of the 2 Bar Ranch in Texas, which still exists to this day and conjures images of the era when men were men, and by that I mean in a very Marlboro sort of way.

You just never know who you’re going to bump into at the huge Aspen Food & Wine Classic Grand Tasting Tent. There are hundreds of wineries, scores of food purveyors, not to mention ginormous displays of dazzling gadgets, gizmos and kitchen equipment for the home cook and the pros. More than 5,000 consumers streamed into the two football-field-size tents several times a day to sip and sup. It was a complete and sweet surprise to find Seattle folks in the house.

Blaine Wetzel, the wunderkind chef from Willows Inn on Lummi Island, was named one of the nation’s Best New Chefs by Food & Wine Magazine, his increasingly famous face featured on the cover of the July issue. One of the perks of this recognition is an invitation to the Aspen Food & Wine Festival, a slightly overwhelming – in a good way – event held this weekend.

Madison Park Conservatory’s Cormac Mahoney was glowing. And it wasn’t just the photo-op bright lights. No, the chef was basking in the steady stream of compliments flowing from the consumers at this weekend's glittering Aspen Food & Wine Classic. Even after waiting in one of the longest lines of the event, avid food enthusiasts raved about Mahoney’s signature Coco Pork tacos crowned in crispy shoestring potatoes.

Arts and culture editor Brangien Davis recommends Maria Semple's new book (along with two others from local authors) in the June issue of Seattle mag. This funny trailer, featuring local book nerds (and Tom Skerritt), is just another good reason to put Where'd You Go, Bernadette? on your summer reading list.

On Thursday, June 14, beloved Grand Central Bakery is offering 25 cent cinnamon rolls as part of its 40th anniversary celebration. 25 cents is the original price from 1972, when the bakery first opened. Nothing can quite top that Tom Douglas/mullet picture (above) shared on the bakery's Facebook page, but here's a charming portrait of those early days from the press release:

No matter what’s happening on the field, going to a Seattle Mariners game is always a huge hit for me. I might even start a blog, detailing every amazing morsel of food I’ve tried around The Safe, home to one of the best food courts on the planet.

What was originally a party featuring 20 Northwest restaurants and 20 local breweries and wineries has mushroomed well beyond the symbolic number 20, but no one seems to be complaining. About half a dozen additional restaurants just announced include Robin Leventhal of Crave Catering and Top Chef fame, Lecosho's Matte Janke, Jeremy McClachlan of Salty's on Alki, plus new winery additions like Goose Ridge Estate, Kestrel Vintners and Rotie Cellars.
