One of the restaurants I review for the June issue is Brimmer & Heeltap. I’ve known proprietress Jen Doak for years, back when she managed The Tasting Room in Post Alley. It’s been fun to watch her career grow.

Basic guest room at Motif

In addition to running his ridiculously popular lunch spot Il Corvo, Mike Easton is doing rapid-fire work on his upcoming Roman-style pizzeria, Gabbiano, which he hopes to open in Pioneer Square sometime in July.

In a totally unexpected move, Dot’s Charcuterie & Bistrot owner Miles James took to Facebook last night to announce that his bistro would be closing — almost immediately. Dot's will serve its last dinner tonight.

Book Bindery announces new chef
Come end of June, Book Bindery in *Queen Anne will be closing for good, re-emerging in August with a new name and a new chef. By way of press release, the owners behind the winery-adjacent restaurant along the Ship Canal announced that Nico Borzee, most recently of Artusi, will be stepping into the role being vacated by chef Shaun McCrain, who has been with the Book Bindery since it opened in 2010.

Kay Smith-Blum has been buying clothing for Butch Blum for 40 years and definitely has the eye for it—given the shop’s continued success. During a recent buying trip to New York, Smith-Blum journeyed way past Canal St. on Broadway in the rain, dodging pothole and mud-flying from taxi-cab wheels, to visit designer Ji Oh’s showroom. “So Ji starts to show me the collection and after about five fabulous pieces I realize this is special,” say Smith-Blum.

Taco lovers, listen up. Two words why you need to get to The Saint as soon as possible: Álvaro Candela. He's the guy behind the wildly popular Monday taco nights at Matt Dillon's Sitka & Spruce that ended last month when Candela accepted the job as executive chef at Capitol Hill's "tequila salvation" on the corner of Olive and Howell.
