The non-profit North Cascades Institute just released its 2010 program schedule, and as usual, there are some great offerings for those who like to get outdoors and explore the world around us.

"The Last Campaign of Booth Gardner," a documentary short chronicling the former governor's battle to legalize physician-assisted suicide is up for an Oscar tonight. The 38-minute film was directed by Daniel Junge and shot in mostly in Olympia and Tacoma during the lead up to the passing of Initiative 1000 (a.k.a. the "Death with Dignity Act"). Here's a clip from the 38-minute film (which is supposed to eventually air on HBO) directed by Colorado filmmaker Daniel Junge.
Seattle mag fashion correspondent Joan Kelly lends her expertise to Seattlemag.com with her "In the Closet" series, a monthly video installment on Seattle shops, looks, trends and more. Last week, Kelly stopped by The Art Institute of Seattle to give us a sneak peek at new spring and fall trends.
It’s official. I’m too old for the rumpled yet cool college sweatpants and t-shirt look. It’s okay, though, because now I get to shop at boutiques like Vu where I can find clothes that are stylish enough for the office or an evening out. This bright and well-edited shop specializes in high-end vintage clothes ranging from the 1920’s to almost modern-day. From a lightweight Escada wool shirt ($85) to a Chanel Creations coat ($995), Vu's prices reflect the quality and condition of the shop's inventory.
Bike lovers, kick-off the cycling season this Sunday at the Cascade Bicycle Club’s Chilly Hilly on Bainbridge Island. Whether you’re into fast-paced-edge-of-your-tiny-seat racing or leisurely day treks, this 33 mile ride—packed with 2,675 feet of climbing--is a scenically breathtaking and challenging race. Fair warning: as its name suggests, the race can be both chilly and hilly (and also damp), so layer up!
What's great about birding is that anyone can get out and enjoy it while taking in some fresh air and getting a little exercise. If you're interested in it but not sure where to start, tag along on with an Audubon Master Birder on a bird walk through Carkeek Park.
The Seattle Chefs Table was formed in 2009 in an effort to regenerate an interest in fine dining. Each chef--Thierry Rautureau of Rover's, Jason Wilson of Crush, Maria Hines of Tilth, Joseba Jiménez de Jiménez, co-founder of Harvest Vine, John Sundstrom of Lark, and Holly Smith of Café Juanita--cooks one course in this culinary extravaganza.
For those who might be interested in Monday's event, here is the menu:

If the recent glimpse of sunny weather hasn’t given you hope that spring is near then a visit to West Seattle’s always funky and fun Clementine is in order. I popped in last week and found warmer weather inspiration in their newly arriving spring inventory. The first standout item was their small but growing selection of West Seattle-based Chemical Wedding clutches and handbags—featured in our 2009 shopping issue—made from lovingly worn-in new and recycled leather ($168-$260).
