The press preview for the new King Tut exhibit at the Pacific Science Center began with the customary parade of thanks to partners and sponsors, along with civic boosterism regarding this “marquee event” and the tourist dollars its going to rake in for the city (90,000 tickets have already been sold—claustrophobes, take heed). It all started to blur together, as giant photos of selected Egyptian artifacts looped in a soothing slideshow, over and over, on the immense IMAX screen in the PACCAR theater.

As the city eagerly awaits the results of your privately-funded transportation study that may (or may not) determine if a third professional sports venue in the SoDo neighborhood will cause insurmountable traffic issues, where two stadiums and a working port already frequently force things to a standstill, let us at Seattle magazine (headquartered very close to Safeco Field) submit the above for consideration.
Why: Just try to watch this and not get covered in empathy-goosebumps.

It's almost that time again: time to get down at the always free and always folksy Northwest Folklife Festival this weekend (5/25-5/28; 11am-10pm) at Seattle Center.
Check out this video Seattle Channel's Art Zone, in which host Nancy Guppy interviewed Northwest filmmakers featured at SIFF this year on the red carpet during the opening-night gala. Why does Guppy arrive in a dog crate strapped to the top of a car? Because that's how Guppy does it. (Mitt Romney, we're looking at you.)
Warning: There's a pretty gross (but funny) vomit scene in the trailer.
Why: a) Seems funny; b) directed by Jay and Mark Duplass; c) we empathize with the pain and humiliation that is misdirected sibling love; d) we dig laser tag.

Two weeks from today, you'll be able to do something that, a year ago, few Seattleites thought they would do again: buy tickets to a show at Intiman. And not just one, but four shows, ranging from classic to never-before-seen works that all promise to test the boundaries of our comfort zones (yes, please! Test away!).
The much anticipated Intiman Summer Festival will run July 11-August 26, with preview performances starting July 5. A repertory company of seventeen local actors (listed below) will play more than 40 roles in four plays directed by Allison Narver, Andrew Russell, Valerie Curtis-Newton and Dan Savage.
2011 subscribers can redeem the free seats promised to them before tickets go on sale to the general public. Information on how former subscribers can redeem those tickets is already in the mail.
Otherwise, tickets are $30 each and can be purchased at Ticketmaster.com or by calling 800.745.3000, starting June 4.
