Head to The Barrel Thief in Fremont on Saturday, February 8 from noon to 4 p.m. for a wine tasting event featuring a trunk show of gorgeous jewels from Shamila. The wine tasting is free, and so is trying on all the eye candy, but be forewarned, Shamila’s rings, necklaces and earrings are so sublime, you may find yourself whipping out your credit card for a have-to-have piece of her stunning work.

Ethan and Angela Stowell's Red Cow is quickly approaching soft opening stage, and today, they've given us an exclusive first look at its menu.  The steak frites concept in Madrona is opening in the former Restaurant Bea space (which was formerly June, which was formerly Cremant) sometime after Valentine's Day (an official date will be released in about a week or so). Once that happens, the bistro will be in business Sun-Thurs, 5-10pm and Fri-Sat until 11pm.

Yesterday, while much of the city was distracted by a bit of Super Bowl celebrating, the Northwest Flower & Garden Show kicked off its annual celebration of all things flora at the Washington State Convention Center (Downtown, 7th Ave. & Pike St.; 206.694.5030; wscc.com).

Opening Ceremonies for the 2014 Winter Olympic Games begin tomorrow, February 7, at 7:30 p.m. EST (on tape delay). And while NBC will be live-streaming all sporting events on its website, take note that it is not streaming tomorrow's fanfare, so hole up in your living room or find a sports bar to catch all the Sochi opening festivities.

Must WatchCatch a Flick at the Asian American Film Festival(2/2 to 2/9, times vary) — This annual festival screens shorts, features and documentaries by and about Asian Americans, including basketball phenom Jeremy Lin (Linsanity) and a young Cambodian struggling to get out of a Seattle gang and become a break dancer (Raskal Love).

New York’s fashion week started today and all the talk about Alexander Wang moving his show to Brooklyn (radical!) and the stellar indie lineup of Milk’s Made Fashion Week (Cushnie et Ochs, Alexandre Herchcovitch, Jonathan Simkhai, Jeremy Scott and many others) running concurrent to the tents at Lincoln Center has got me thinking about Seattle’s nonexistent fashion week and why that is.

February is here, which means it’s time to think about beautiful things (and I don’t just mean my recently passed birthday), things like hearts, flowers and love. And about dates since this time of the year is often about the pledging of already-in-place relationships and for the beginning of relationships. The latter of course can be completely frightening, especially with the added pressure of Valentine’s Day, and the days close to Valentine’s Day. But have no fear, my star-crossed friends.

Not sure you’ve heard, but there’s a major parade taking place in Seattle today. Around 300,000 people are expected to line the streets from Belltown to SODO to welcome the Seahawks home after their big Super Bowl win. The parade starts at 11 am at 4th and Denny and is expected to end around 1:30 pm at CenturyLink.

The Seattle mag crew is lucking out tomorrow with front row seats for the biggest happening in a long time: the Seahawks victory parade. The parade starts at 11 a.m., with a route that takes the celebration from Seattle Center at Denny Way, south through downtown on Fourth Ave (smack dab in front of our new digs), and ends at the north entrance of CenturyLink Field.
