If you gaze out over Elliott Bay this weekend you might catch a glimpse of the Hugo Boss yacht, a carbon fiber, 60 mono-hull racing boat with around 600 square meters of sail (that’s the size of a soccer field) helmed by British skipper Alex Thomson, who races her all over the globe.

Spend an evening with Valerie Steele, fashion historian, author and curator from the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (MFIT) this Friday night, July 19m at 7 p.m. Steele will be in town to give a talk on the Japanese fashion influence and “revolution” in the 1980s as part of the SAM Talks series.

On May 2, The Four Seasons Hotel was all about wine and shoes and the women who love both, during the Seattle Children’s Home’s (SCH) third annual Wine, Women & Shoes fundraiser. VIPs got an early-bird Neiman Marcus fashion show preview, and every guest caught up on the latest fashions while shopping in stylish pop-up boutiques and sipping fine wines. The $70,000 raised benefits SCH services, which include mental health and development support for children and their families.

To be honest, I’m kind of shocked by this news, because the store is so awesome and men’s wear is having a moment right now, but according to a message from Blackbird owner Nicole Miller on Facebook, she is closing her nine year-old brick and mortar store in Seattle on July 31 to focus on her successful wholesale line of incense, beard oil, soap and other products.

No matter how often I apply and reapply sunscreen, all that exposure to the blaring sun takes its toll on my skin, reddening it like a lobster. It’s looking like a heat wave this week, perfect timing for a Drifting Arrows swimwear trunk show at Madewell! This locally designed bathing suit line, owned by Leah Lawrence, is full of bandeaus and high-waisted bottoms, as well as one-pieces with dramatic (but not overly sexy) neck- and back-lines.
