Jason Wu and Nordstrom are totally besties right now. The designer returned to the city for the second time in a month last week (the first was a personal appearance for his Nordstrom exclusive clothing collection, Miss Wu, at the Bellevue store) to chat about his Lancome makeup collection, also a Nordstrom exclusive.

This is one of my favorite weeks of the year: The Bellevue Collection’s fashion week, where Bellevue Square merchants, Vogue, and this year, GQ, come together for a fashion extravaganza. I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it again, these shows are beautifully produced, super fun and a great way to get a glimpse of fall trends come to life. Bonus: you can walk right across the street from the venue and snap those trendy clothes up right off the rack.

It was a sweltering late summer afternoon and I was finally about to cross the threshold of Jill Bucy Skincare, hallowed ground for Seattle’s skincare obsessed and widely considered as the place for a facial in town.

At long last it’s finally time to announce the winner of the 2013 Seamless in Seattle Reader’s Choice poll. Over 4,000 of you voted and the overwhelming winner is: Jordan Christianson of Jonquil & Mr Black.

Oh, hi fall: it’s you. Nice to see you again, I guess. I suppose this means the rain is coming. Well, let’s focus on the positive. In addition to gray skies and drizzle, fall also means sweaters. Specifically cashmere sweaters, which are cozy, snuggly and all sorts of delicious. On Saturday, September 21 local Eileen Fisher stores (downtown Seattle, University Village and Bellevue Square) are showing off their exclusive, limited edition line of cashmere pieces, designed specifically with fall in mind.

Rick Rochon, owner of PhinneyWood's Ludlow Home and purveyor of all things stylish and tasteful, is hosting his first ever sale on Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22. Shoppers will save 20 percent on all vintage and upholstered furniture, which includes some of the finest items he carries in the store. What's not on sale (jewelry, larder items including jam, tea, salt, shrubs and body care) are also worthy of your perusal to round out your Ludlow Home shopping experience.

Sometimes the minute I glance at a designer’s website or see their work in person a bell goes off in my brain: ding, ding, ding, we’ve got a winner. And that happened with Seattle-based jewelry maker, Rachel Ravitch. Her work is interesting and makes a statement, but thanks to the materials she works with (leather, hand-dyed silk and horsehair), imminently wearable and somehow very soft.

Madrona’s getting a new store. The paper is almost down off the windows at Hammer + Awl, a men’s accessory boutique fixing to stock what sounds like great American-made goods for dudes, and women who like things like Olo perfume from Portland, Shinola watches, Field Notes notebooks and finery from The Portland Collection from Pendleton. Stay tuned for news on their opening date.

It’s always exciting to get to know a new designer in town, and I’m particularly excited about Debbie Robert’s just-launched line, Silvae (Latin for “of the woods”). Roberts looks to the terrain of the Pacific Northwest for her muse, blending organic elements with excellent fit and construction to create a collection that is at once innovative, completely on-trend, familiar, exciting and easy to see being worn by today’s girl-on-the-street (probably a Capitol Hill street).

Seattle has always been a quietly fashionable city, thanks in part to our broad hybrid of cultural influences (Scandinavian, Asian and, most recently, African). Our Wild West rebellious streak means we don’t feel the need to conform to the fashion world at large (we’re much too practical for that), and the innovative thread that inspires our creative brain trust extends to our independent fashion design community, stimulating a groundswell of new talent in recent years.

Salons are great places usually—it feels good to be amongst the hustle and bustle of all that beauty action.

Bell Square is on fire right now. Lululemon has opened its first Ivivva athletica, with a focus on young women (aka, tweens and teens), with a range of “cross-functional athletic apparel” according to the release. Shoppers can expect the same fabrics and details found at Lululemon, with a nod towards dance-inspired styles (leotards and shrugs), as well as yoga wear and pieces for running that can go from the track meet to the street and back again.
