The Comet Tavern wasn’t pretty when Jason Lajeunesse and Dave Meinert, the same team behind Lost Lake Cafe and Big Mario's Pizza, took it over last November. In fact, it was in extreme disarray.

He left Ray’s on Tuesday and now, after nearly 30 years, chef Wayne Johnson is taking a much needed (and deserved) break from the restaurant industry. And don’t even think about asking him what’s next. He's not planning a damn thing. I met up for coffee with the completely relaxed and happy looking chef this afternoon near his home in West Seattle. Because, you know, he has time to do that sort of stuff now.

Well played, Occidental Plaza. You managed to get yourself three pretty fantastic anchors courtesy of one of Seattle's most lauded restaurateurs. London Plane, the long-awaited sequel to Matt Dillon's (Sitka & Spruce, Corson Building, Bar Sajor) wine bar and retail shop of the same name opened at 8 a.m. this morning, completing his two-tiered collaboration with Katherine Anderson of Marigold & Mint.

Back in January, Allison Scheff broke news that Dot's Delicatessen would be closing its Fremont doors to make way for a revamp that would ultimately see it transform from corner deli to Dot's Charcuterie & Bistrot. And tonight, ladies and genteleman, is the night of the grand reveal.

If the stars align, Pioneer Square will be getting a pair of awesome neighbors right around June.

If you never got the chance to visit the much celebrated Cassis when it was located on Capitol Hill from 1997 to 2004, you have another chance. Cassis 2.0 is now open for business, and while no longer on the Hill or  located in a weathered old brick building, there are many original comforts intact at the new incarnation of the French bistro.

It's not difficult to find Mexican food in Seattle, but a casual after-hours hangout that has Frito pie and "totchos" on the menu is another story.

Lots of things get announced on Facebook these days, but it's still sad and a bit jarring to see a restaurant announce its final day. Yesterday afternoon, Daisley Gordon turned to social media to let the public know that he's closing his "hidden gem" bistro Marché after a nearly two-and-a-half-year run in the heart of Pike Place Market: Dear Friends,

Because there's no such thing as too many doughnuts, Top Pot (which recenly celebrated its 12th anniversary Feb. 8) is opening another store. This one, however, is a little different for a couple of reasons.

It's only February, and this year is already looking to rival Josh Henderson's very productive 2013 — a year that spawned Skillet Diner Ballard, Westward / Little Gull, Hollywood Tavern and C

It won't be long before Georgetown has a new deli. During a lunch stop yesterday at Brendan McGill's lovely Pioneer Square beer hall, Altstadt, he told me he was on his way to put paper on the windows of his current project  — a sure sign a space is in the hands of new ownership.  "Before it was more of an agreement. Now, it's happening," he says.

And, ladies and gentleman, that's how fast the restaurant industry works! After just two nights of practice service over the weekend, Ethan and Angela Stowell are formally swinging open the doors to their new Madrona steak frites bistro, Red Cow (1423 34th Ave), in time for dinner tonight. Here's the menu, in case you missed it.

Ethan and Angela Stowell's Red Cow is quickly approaching soft opening stage, and today, they've given us an exclusive first look at its menu.  The steak frites concept in Madrona is opening in the former Restaurant Bea space (which was formerly June, which was formerly Cremant) sometime after Valentine's Day (an official date will be released in about a week or so). Once that happens, the bistro will be in business Sun-Thurs, 5-10pm and Fri-Sat until 11pm.

Not sure you’ve heard, but there’s a major parade taking place in Seattle today. Around 300,000 people are expected to line the streets from Belltown to SODO to welcome the Seahawks home after their big Super Bowl win. The parade starts at 11 am at 4th and Denny and is expected to end around 1:30 pm at CenturyLink.
