Over 500 people sipped the night away at our sold out Red, White and Brew tasting event, celebrating the wineries honored in our 8th Annual Best WA Wine Awards. Despite it being the one drizzly day of summer Seattle came out in full force to clink glasses with 18 different wineries and winemakers to taste their winning products. Guests also enjoyed samplings from 7 of our favorite local breweries and spirits courtesy of Hendrick's & Tullamore Dew. TASTE provided delicious appetizers alongside Belle Epicurean’s fresh made macaroons and jambon baguettes. Part of th
Amazon Fine Art (beta) launched today, right on the heels of the gigantic news that Jeff Bezos purchased The Washington Post (not a copy of the newspaper, but the entire newspaper). The timing has many people fretting about Bezos becoming king of the world, but until that happens we might as well explore the new art offerings at Amazon.
In a continuation of our nautical-themed summer, check out these tote bags by Seattle-based Choke Shirt Company. Made out of durable cotton canvas, with sturdy webbed handles and a contrasting lining and adorned with three of the company's most popular designs (an anchor, a dodo bird listening to a Walkman and an elephant), these bags are just about perfect for trips to the beach, the store or anywhere, really.
File this under your unpredictable, out-of-the-blue Monday afternoon news: Seattle Business magazine just blogged that Amazon.com founder and CEO Jeff Bezos is purchasing The Washington Post, according to the newspaper. Seattle Business managing editor John Levesque writes:
Better hook some tickets soon to the feel-good cookout of the summer. The season’s first installment of Salmon Enchanted Evening sold out, with more than 450 folks feasting on one of the beautifully put together meals wrangled by Tom Douglas and his crackerjack crew.
Fremont’s scent super-store, Essenza, is hosting a launch event on August 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. for Achtung, a collab between local perfumer House of Matriarch, artist Rick Barchenger and emerging designer Aronhix who has created textiles based on Barchenger’s black and white mandala-style drawings.
House of Matriarch perfumer Christi Meshell explains a bit about Barchenger and their collaboration:
University Village opened in 1956 and while all of its original inhabitants (save the QFC) are gone and the mall has changed considerably, Village Maternity is celebrating its 30th anniversary in September with a month full of in-store events, a new website with ecommerce and 5 percent of all sales to Children’s Hospital in honor of founder Shelley Capretto, who, daughter Anna Williams explains, passed away in January.
The Westlake Center Lush is one of nine US stores receiving a visit from Gorilla Perfumes Album 2, nine new unisex scents from British father and son team Mark and Simon Constantine. From August 10 through 31 Seattle fragrance lovers will get the chance to sniff the supremely weird scent combos inspired by “the British countryside and its ancient heritage, music, emotions and literary figures,” meant to be “an antidote to boring mass-market scents.”
Must BravoThe Ring Cycle(8/4 to 8/25, times vary) — Running times for The Ring might make your blood run cold (the four mini-epic operas are Das Rheingold: 2.5 hours; Die Walküre: 4.5 hours; Siegfried: 5 hours; and Götterdämmerung: 5.25 hours), but the pros know all this tush time is worth it. There’s simply nothing that compares to Wagner’s monumental work, which features Rhine maidens, a lustful dwarf, Valkyries, a dragon and one ring to rule them all.
Okay, no one likes getting a good cocktail in a bar more than me (well, a few people do). With a happy bartender making me well-crafted drinks, or pouring me a well-poured beer or glass of wine, I’m a happy person. But I also like to make nice imbibables at home--and I’m guessing you do, too. It can be hard to know how to start, however. Making sure you have the core drink-making tools is key. While the below aren’t the only tools, they’ll sure come in handy.
While it’s been open for a while in the newly renovated Greenus Building (500 E Pike St.), Edie’s Shoes has announced the date for its official Grand Opening Party on Thursday, September 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. during the Capitol Hill Art Walk. Enjoy goodie bags, sips and nibbles, special events from vendors (including make-your-own Maguba clogs) and an appearance by artist Brandon Vosika.
Where do the grandmasters of cocktail culture collide with the best and brightest in the spirits industry over phenomenal libations? Tales of the Cocktail, of course!
It is the highlight of the bartender circuit. Held annually in New Orleans, the week features seminars, parties and cocktailing galore in this boozy 24-hour playground. It can be a liver workout—trust me!
