Woo-hoo! SIFF is just around the bend! Check out this sampling from the lineup (which features many local filmmakers, hurrah!) and start blocking off your calendar. The fest starts May 20, so use these remaining weeks to get yourself into tip-top movie watching condition. Hydrate! (Er, but not too much.) Now that Capitol Hill's favorite fish-n-chip spot will be open all day (Sunday - Wednesday 11:30-12 a.m., Thursday - Saturday 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 a.m.), you can stop by whenever. Tonight Maria Hines of Tilth Restaurant, one of our current Best Restaurants chefs, competes on Top Chef Masters. And look who she’s cooking for – the cast members and TV crew of the hit TV show “Modern Family.” The theme of this meal is not announced, but NBC told us that the chefs will be making classic dishes current – a reoccurring point of view and one that Maria thrives on. The show airs at 10 pm on Bravo.

Dan Nelson, author of Best Hikes With Dogs in Western Washington, will discuss how to enjoy safe, responsible hikes with dogs, briefly covering canine gear issues, first aid, and fitness training. He will then present a slide show on some of his favorite pooch-friendly hikes in the Cascades and Olympics, followed by a Q&A session.

Jason Wu is already a fashion icon at only 27 years old. Wu designed the ethereal, silk and chiffon gown worn by First Lady Michelle Obama to the 2009 inaugural balls. His couture creation catapulted him to the fashion forefront and his history-making gown was inducted into the Smithsonian Museum of American History last month.  Wu recently visited the downtown Nordstrom store to showcase his spring and fall collections which include shimmering sheath dresses designed with 24-karat gold overlays. Glamour and success, however, have not gone to Wu's head.

Local book lovers, breathe a collective sigh of relief: Elliott Bay Book Company has safely relocated to its cozy, new Capitol Hill location. You can swing into the new shop today or show your love for the 36-year-old bibliophile haunt and cruise down to their opening day block party (co-hosted by Everyday Music) this Thursday. In addition to the food, libations and live music, rumor has it the city even plans to block Tenth Avenue (between Pike and Pine) just for the festivities.
