Cocktails for a crowd
With the long weekend almost upon us, we’re thinking it’s time to party! However, having a party isn’t much fun if you spend its entirety as the most stressed out host or hostess in the world. Luckily, serving good drinks for a big group isn’t hard.

Rainmakers Ultimate Frisbee MLU
If you are a middle school girl, the Seattle Rainmakers' home game in West Seattle was the place to be last weekend, seeing as the Mother’s Day crowd was made up primarily of middle school boys.  It’s not a surprising fan base for Seattle’s first Major League Ultimate (MLU) team considering the growing popularity of the sport at the youth level and the fact that many of the Rainmakers themselves coach at schools throughout the city.

Memphis in May barbecue
You just never know who you’ll bump into at the massive Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, the 36th annual food-focused event held last weekend on a mile-long stretch of the Mississippi. This heated competition is also known as the Super Bowl of Swine and calling it EPIC would be an gross understatement.

Big Foot Sasquatch
It’s true: There are few things that could motivate a Seattleite to leave her cozy apartment in the U District at 5 p.m. on a Friday evening, hop onto the glorified parking lot that is I-5 at that hour and head for Puyallup. Last weekend, however, I did just that—and I did it for Bigfoot.

Westward July opening in Seattle
We're in a familiar spring lull. Seems this time every year there's a short stretch of anticipatory time just before several restaurants open, in time for high summer. This year there are several worth watching for, including a major Tom Douglas project and a hidden Ballard spot from Renee Erickson. Here's what you need to know.

Goat is No. 1, the world’s most consumed red meat, eaten by 70 percent of the planet’s population. And yet, it’s tough to find it on menus in the U.S. Now, don’t give me that malarkey about goats are too cute to eat. (What about Porky Pig? Yes, those bacon makers are soooey adorable. And on and on about all sorts of animals we routinely find on our plates.) No, I think the real rub against eating goat is that it’s challenging to cook. It’s extremely lean and it can taste… well… goat-y.

We reported last week about the gratis sneak peek of "Heart Beats," the new video from Seattle’s beloved indie-folk/chamber-pop/just-plain-endearing band Hey Marseilles. Our staff photographer Hayley Young wrote and directed the video. If you missed the preview, "Heart Beats" is up. Watch it here.

See that over there? That's a Velveeta Éclair. Or rather, Éclair Velveeta; its creators, chefs David McMillan and Frédéric Morin, hail from the legendary Joe Beef in Montreal. And they're just two of the dozens of chefs who'll grace Portland's second annual Feast PDX with their presence.

I don’t know about you, but I love bags. My mom just commented the other day on how many purses, handbags and totes I have—and this is coming from the queen clotheshorse of all time. Nonetheless, it’s true, I have a ton of them, and while they’re not expensive or designer, they’re all distinctive in some way, which is what I look for specifically in my accessories, from bags to jewelry.

Ok, so maybe it’s not the right time of year to be talking cashmere, but I’m so in love with this new-to-me line that I wanted to share it ASAP. Plus, the press release call this line “trans-seasonal,” and then again, it’s not quite Junuary, so maybe there’ll be a need for some cozy wear soon. Also, this collection is only available for pre-order, so when your purchase arrived in September, you'll be super ready for this kind of garment.
