MUST TASTE
Deathcake Ice Cream
Cupcake Royale is expanding its line of cupcake-inspired ice creams to include a devilishly rich Deathcake flavor. If you haven’t tried it before, the Deathcake is a tiny cupcake that packs a wallop of intense chocolate. Find the new flavor through February only at Cupcake Royale scoop shops in Ballard, Capitol Hill, Bellevue and downtown. Bonus news: Cupcake Royale will soon be serving ice cream scoops, cones, sundaes and homemade ice cream sandwiches at a café behind home plate on the 100 level, in The Pen at SafeCo Field. Another reason to root for the home team.

MUST SEE
She She Pop: Testament
Opens Thursday (1/31–2/3) — Imagine having a frank conversation with your elderly father about familial guilt, parental love and impending death. Now imagine having that discussion in front of a couple of hundred people and further imagine that at some point during this conversation, your septuagenarian father is stripped to his underwear. Welcome to the strange but wonderful world of German performance collective, She She Pop, performing (with their fathers) at On the Boards this weekend. 1/31–2/3. 8 p.m. $25. On the Boards, 100 W Roy St.; 206.217.9888; ontheboards.org

MUST WATCH
Bands on the Big Screen
Thursday (1/31) — Thanks in part to YouTube, much of the magic of music videos has been lost—the careful pairing of sound and imagery just doesn’t come through on a laptop or smartphone. Give music video-makers their due (and help raise funds for Northwest Film Forum) at this event, where locally made videos for local bands will be shown in their full glory on SIFF’s big screen [jump to blog]. The 90-minute screening features music videos from bands including Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Pickwick, Hey Marseilles, Dark Time Sunshine and Kaylee Cole, all of which were directed by local filmmakers, including Seattle magazine staff photographer, Hayley Young.
1/31, 7 p.m. $15. SIFF Cinema at the Uptown, 511 Queen Anne Ave. N; 206.324.9996; siff.net

MUST SHOP
Sustalux at Clementine
Starts Saturday (2/2–2/3) — Continuing a three-year fashion collaboration made in heaven, Dana Guyton, curator of virtual vintage shop Sustalux will set up shop again at Clementine in West Seattle for this weekend only. Sustalux’s throwback style is a perfect complement to Clementine’s modern sensibility, and both retailers will be stocked to the hilt with must-have clothing, shoes and accessories.
2/2–2/3. 4447 California Ave. SW; 206.935.9400; clementines.com

MUST HEAR
George Saunders
A psychotic antiques dealer. A suicidal cancer patient. A lonely and delusional child. These are just a few of the comically sad characters featured in the stories by award-winning writer George Saunders, who is reading at Town Hall. [jump to blog] In the vein of American writers such as Mark Twain and Kurt Vonnegut, Saunders tells his stories with inventive wit and searing insight, but in a style that is markedly original. His new short-story collection, Tenth of December, treats violence and despair with Saunders’ trademark brand of humor—sometimes playful, sometimes black, but always deft. Advanced tickets are sold out to this event, but show up early for a chance to grab a limited number of tickets at the door, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
February 4, 7:30 p.m.; $5. Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave.; 206.652.4255; townhallseattle.org
