EMP’s new exhibit Worn to Be Wild: The Black Leather Jacket, opens on October 20, and is an exploration of the leather jacket in its many studded, safety pinned and distressed guises. The museum has partnered with Harley Davidson Museum, highlighting some of their oldest jackets, both functional and fashionable, important jackets from major musicians (Elvis) and celebrities (Harry Shearer from Spinal Tap) along with celebrity leathers from Jean Paul Gaultier and Jeremy Scott. To celebrate its launch, EMP is hosting Project Leather, a runway and trunk show featuring leatherwork by some of the region’s most innovative designers, including Carole McClellan who has outfitted some of Seattle’s sexiest rock and rollers (hello, Chris Cornell) over her long career; Portland’s Ms. Wood, a husband and wife team who use leather and wood to create some pretty special pieces; musician and designer Aykut Ozen, whose 60’s and 70’s-inspired leather jackets are the kind fashion dreams are made of; and many others who are making an impact in the local style scene with one of humankind’s original materials.

The event is Saturday, October 20 at 7:30 p.m. (show at 8 p.m.) and tickets range in price from $35 to $175. All tickets include access to the grand opening of Worn to Be Wild: The Black Leather Jacket and is 21 and over with a cash bar.
