Elissa Washuta

Seattle writer and Cowlitz Indian Tribe member Elissa Washuta celebrates the release of her new memoir, My Body Is a Book of Rules, a bildungsroman about her struggles with bipolar disorder, sexual trauma, body image and questions of identity, including how much Indian is “enough” (or too much). Using a creative mix of narrative, diary entries, instant message transcripts, imagined therapist notes, highly personal footnotes and Law & Order dialogue, Washuta spills her guts with humor and wise perspective.
