Entry Category: Emerging Designer

Designer Name: Gwen Stubbs

Line: Lekkerlife Clothing

Branding Statement/ Bio Info:

Lekkerlife Clothing was launched in 2006 with the intention of providing a line of good quality, hand-made garments that are easy and fun to wear. All garments are designed and created in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle, WA. The name “Lekkerlife” pays homage to my Dutch background. “Lekker” is a popular phrase in Holland meaning good, or yummy.

I started sewing at a young age on my Mom’s Pfaff 1209, the same machine I use today! I use to sew my own purses, and even attempted to make my own pair of bondage pants in high school. I’ve always loved playing with clothing and have been shopping at thrift and vintage stores most of my life. It wasn’t until going to fashion school at New York Fashion Academy did my love for pattern making and design flourish. I’ve been obsessed with creating clothing since.

My current goal is to open a public studio where I will offer my ready-to-wear line, and custom garments. My new project is to launch a line of casual wedding dresses (something I didn’t have time to do before the Seamless in Seattle deadline). Although I will continue to run my small ready-to-wear line, I would like to specialize in short/casual “non-traditional” wedding and bridesmaid dresses.

I sell to women of all ages and backgrounds and my price point is around $80-$180 for my ready-to-wear line.

I currently sell at Velouria in the Ballard neighborhood, but would like to sell at other boutiques like Horse Shoe, Totokaelo or Pirkko. Eventually when I get my bridal line up and running, I would like to sell at Calla Bridal, and at my own showroom.
