Designer Statement
What is Calotype? The term Calotype come from the Greek kalos for ‘beautiful’ and type ‘image’, and is describes the first haunting photographic images ever produced. The Calotype was born from a mixture of curiosity and pleasure, in an age when experimentation and everyday use merged to form what we know as modern urban culture. This collection gestures towards that aesthetic; flattering silhouette and colorful prints combine to create clothing that is modern-whimsical but always wearable
Who is Calotype? You could call her a creative type, a nouveau hippie, a Seattleite. She lives an urban lifestyle but still feels a connection to nature. She makes her passion her profession and enjoys a respectable paycheck for her efforts. During her off hours she enjoys the city’s great restaurants and cultural events, as well as getting outside to garden or hike the mountains. She appreciates the Northwest, where bridging style and ingenuity with environmental and social conscience is second-nature. She frequents local boutiques seeking clothing that is distinctive, versatile and comfortable. She doesn’t want to look like everyone else. She wants to be seen for the creative and independent woman she is.
