Designer Name: John Lindsay Lawrence
Line: Metamorphic Gear
Branding Statement/ Bio Info:

Earth-minded products for your urban lifestyle.
Metamorphic Gear is the brainchild of Lindsay Lawrence, a world traveler, sailor and lover of the outdoors. Lindsay wanted to design a range of stylish but reliable eco-friendly products. Having been involved with sailing both professionally and recreationally, Lindsay witnessed the durability of sail material before it was sent to landfill so decided to give it a new lease of life as the major ingredient in Metamorphic Gear’s products. Lindsay has collaborated with other local designers, such as Michael Cepress and Josh Busseler, to create our products.
We are upcyclers! We transform unwanted materials destined for landfill into stylish bags and accessories. Our focus is the creation of upcycled apparel that is not immediately noticed as such and created from sail and truck tarpaulin. A material that once moved boats over the oceans and transport on roadways now helps our customers look good and feel good as you move through their day. We’ve developed a style we like to call ‘eco-stealth’ that allows our customer to align their urban lifestyle with their ethic.
The primary market is style-motivated 20-45 year old professional men who are well-educated and environmentally-driven in their lifestyle purchases. We want our customers to feel comfortable using our products in there urban environment, from the board room to the weekend café.
We at Metamorphic Gear love the ocean; we sail on it and are deeply connected to it. With the purchase of any one of our products 5% of the retail price will be donated to cleaning up the oceans. We are currently working on a campaign to clean up beaches on the Midway Islands. We are also dedicated now and in the future to having all our products made in the USA.
The price point for Metamorphic Gear accessories ranges from $40 to $300 USD. We are currently carried at SPUN Sustainable Collective and online at Greyslater and Recycled Market. A few of our desired vendors are the Zebra Club, REI, Patagonia, Fireworks, Spoke and Hub, and CleanScapes at Gillman Village.
