On April 20, Seattle magazine had its first-ever Earth Day 5K, a charity run in support of Green Seattle Partnership, a local nonprofit that works to maintain the city’s forested parklands. Nearly 1,000 attendees participated in the event, and the Seattle mag staff came out en masse to support the runners, who were also cheered on by the Ballard High School cheerleaders. REI was on the scene as a sponsor, with some pre- and post-event yoga; Odwalla passed out samples of its juices; New Belgium Brewing Company set up a post-run beer garden; and Whole Foods handed out bananas and flatbread grilled on grills from Albert Lee.
