Nancy Calos-Nakano, 98106, Highland Park/White Center
I was born in J-town, grew up in Chinatown, spent my teen years on Beacon Hill and married life started on Alki and now residing in Highland Park/White Center in West Seattle.
I frequent many neighborhoods because of the arts/entertainment nonprofits I work with. All of these neighborhoods have their own surly and memorable flavors as well as their challenges.
Diversity is a must, but many neighborhoods still miss the mark. Then I look for the diversity in personalities. There's gotta be a reason for me to work and to try and improve the neighborhood. And there's gotta be a reason why I show up to try and bring understanding. All neighborhoods utilize the arts because it brings energy, creates synergy, as well as jingles the economic vibrancy to any lonely block.
On the physical aspects of my neighborhood...there's privacy. I own a hillside adjacent to the greenbelt. I can scream, run around in my underwear and not worry if anybody can hear or see. The view of Mount Rainier is a plus.
