Local choreographer Dayna Hanson (of dance company 33 Fainting Spells) has created short dance films before, but nothing as expansive as this: Her newest work (which premiered at SXSW) is an experimental feature film about what it’s really like to make performance art, revealing the good, the bad, the ugly and the sublime that occur offstage. Based on her own experience creating the performance piece Gloria’s Cause (which ran at On the Boards in 2010), Improvement Club includes a parallel storyline about the American Revolution, which serves as a remarkable metaphor for makers of art everywhere.
