Poppy’s is truly a diner’s bar: the bright flavors of the counter menu (the Dungeness crab salad, $12, and the eggplant fries, $8, are not to be missed) match the cocktails, which have a distinctive sunlit quality, thanks to culinary bartenders such as the inspiring Veronika Groth (back after a stint at Artusi). The Papi Delicious ($10) is a Seattle landmark of its own, with muddled bell peppers punctuating a tequila melody and graced with a sweet-salty-spicy rim. If you’re hungrier than snacks—the vegetarian thalis ($30 for 10 items) always shine.
