>> Seattle magazine’s March issue came to life on the runway at our first annual The Forecast fashion show on March 14. Northwest fashion braved the elements at Benaroya Hall, as high style from boutiques such as Baby & Co., David Lawrence and Horseshoe merged with locally made outerwear to create a uniquely Seattle look. A portion of the proceeds from the fashionable evening benefited Community for Youth.
>> March 10 proved to be a night to remember at the Westin Seattle, where the Destination: Imagination Wish Night Gala & Auction raised $1.1 million for the Make a Wish Foundation of Alaska & Washington and helped children share the power of a special wish.
>> The Fairmont Olympic Hotel held a run for the roses on March 24 during Heart Ball 2012 to benefit the American Heart Association (AHA). A sold-out crowd donned outrageous hats in honor of the theme “A Night at the Derby” and joined this year’s honorary cochairs, Dr. Gordon and Trisha Cohen, to support AHA’s fight against heart disease.
>> On March 8 at the Showbox SoDo, the 14th annual student-produced Art Institute of Seattle fashion show, The Rite of Spring, presented designs inspired by the season and by Russian composer Igor Stravinsky’s piece of the same name. All proceeds benefit the school’s scholarship fund. >> The rooftop deck at Hotel 1000 was transformed into an enchanted garden—complete with dogs!—on March 30 for the Malibu Doll Spring 2012 Fashion Show. Despite a hilarious preshow doggie escape and subsequent roundup, the runway show went off without a yip, with models in designer Chanel Bianca Prineas’ ruffled bikinis accompanied on the artificial-grass runway by furry fidos wearing collars and accessories from local company High Maintenance Bitch.
>> The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Seattle Guild (JDRF) welcomed donors to the Sheraton Seattle on March 10 for the JDRF Seattle Guild 23rd Annual Super Dream Gala to help find a cure for juvenile diabetes while also honoring Mike and Barbara McKernan, who received the annual Living & Giving Award. After-hours revelers enjoyed the comedic stylings of SNL alum Dana Carvey.
