Opens Friday (10/5-10/6) —  Gather round Seattle Center’s International Fountain this weekend, where local avant garde troupe Degenerate Art Ensemble and Olson Kundig Architects will take you on an otherworldly tour of Seattle World’s Fair history. Roaming through different subterranean performance spaces, you’ll encounter dance, animation, light sculpture, meet three controversial women from the Northwest’s past, and no doubt, view the city and its history a little differently.

Paul Taylor with Seattle Modern Orchestra
Opens Thursday (10/4-10/6) — Didn’t get tickets to On the Board’s sold out show with Mark Morris and surprise guest Baryshnikov? Fear not. There is still great dance to be witnessed this weekend. Paul Taylor worked with dance luminaries George Balanchine, Merce Cunningham and Martha Graham before becoming one himself. The classic modern dance choreographer brings the West Coast premiere of his newest work, “The Uncommitted,” along with several other pieces, to Meany Hall. As a bonus, the accompanying score by Arvo Pärt will be played live by Seattle Modern Orchestra.

MUST MARVEL
Nanda’s The Jacket
Opens Friday (10/5-10/7) — Combine the zany comedy and mad juggling talent of the Flying Karamazov Brothers with the slo-mo martial arts moves of The Matrix, and the result is local acrobatics group Nanda. Its show, The Jacket, blends slapstick, pop culture satire, ninja moves (known as “kung faux”), circus arts and a dancing robot to achieve a thoroughly unique—and utterly engaging—experience with elements that truly appeal to all ages. Catch it before it leaves town on a completely bio-diesel-fueled national tour.
