Hear Will Allen Speak About Urban Farming

Today, Will Allen, one of the inspirations behind that farm, is visiting Seattle from Milwaukee to meet with Seattle Tilth and other community farming groups and to talk about his book emThe Good Food Revolution/em and the children’s book about him, emFarmer Will Allen and the Growing Table/em. Allen will speak at the a href=”http://www.spl.org/about-the-library/library-news-releases/will-allen-1120” target=”_blank”Central Library at 6 p.m. on Wednesday/a during a community information fair on sustainable foods and urban farming, an event that is free and open to the public./p
pAllen was named one of emTime Magazine/em’s most influential people of 2010 and awarded a MacArthur Foundation “Genius” grant for his work on sustainable urban farming. In 1995 he founded Growing Power, a nonprofit farm in Milwaukee that raises produce and fish for the surrounding community and teaches young people about food and farming. “Will Allen has been tremendously influential in promoting urban agriculture as a means toward creating a more just and equitable food system,” says Seattle Tilth’s Executive Director Andrea Platt Dwyer. Farmers are replicating some of Allen’s innovative sustainable farming practices at RBUFW./p
