Pop quiz: Which came first, the still-going-strong Northwest handcrafted beer movement or Latona Pub?

That might be a chicken-or-the-egg kind of conundrum, but it’s safe to say Latona near Green Lake helped create legions of microbrew fans since it first opened under current ownership 25 years ago. (The watering hole’s history dates back much further, to the Prohibition era. Oh, if only those bar stools could talk, the tales they’d tell!)

To celebrate this silver anniversary, the friendly neighborhood place – that also serves up really good pub grub and features a fantastic lineup of talented musicians – is throwing a weeklong party and, of course, you’re invited.

It starts tonight with the release of the 25th anniversary brew from Elysian. Local beer masters have been paying tribute to Latona all year by making special beers for the pub’s fans to enjoy and all those will be poured at the grand finale celebration starting at 5 on Saturday. And what goes good with artisan brewski? Barbecue! With live music, too. It should be a very hoppy week.

Latona’s not just about looking back, either. It makes good use of Twitter, posting pics of its ever-changing lineup of taps. High fives on that front!
