November’s Best New Restaurants issue (co-written by Eater’s Allecia Vermillion, it hits newstands this week) was a pure pleasure to work on because of the spirit of looking ahead, of seeing what (and who!) is on the verge of making it big in Seattle food.

You’ll notice Hayley Young’s stunning portraits of the nine emerging food people whose names you should know now. No, we’re not talking about Ethan Stowell, Matt Dillon or Tom Douglas; these folks are the household names of the future. Olaiya Land from the Pantry at Delancey, chef “Big Mike” Whisenhunt, Seif Chirchi and Rachel Yang’s right-hand-man at Joule and Revel, and more.

We’re seeing a return to real design in restaurants, which we love! So we’ve pointed out some of the most eye-catching design details around town. (Good news: I think we’ve largely moved beyond antlers and taxidermy.)

I’ve also noticed an itchy new trend in service, which I wrote at length about here.

But the reason you’ll be picking up the issue: to find out which restaurant is the Best New Restaurant of the year. I can almost guarantee it’s not the one you think. And just to give myself an extra challenge (ulcer?) I decided to put the restaurants in order. So after much research (you know, eating) and debate, these are the 10 best new restaurants in Seattle right now.  See if you agree.
