An Inside Peek at Friday’s Project Red Dress Fashion Show

Twelve emerging fashion designers will descend on the Fairmont Olympic Hotel tomorrow evening February 3 for the 2012 Project Red Dress Fashion Show. A benefit for the American Heart Association in conjunction with national Wear Red Day, the show pits designer against designer in a competition to determine the best gown of the evening- all crafted in hues of crimson, of course.

I’m both honored and extremely excited to be on the judging panel, especially since three of those twelve designers have graced our pages in the past:

From the Art Institute, wunderkind Isaiah Whitmore is known for strong architectural details and an urban polish.

Seamless in Seattle 2009 winner Renee Corrick (below) uses her background in aeronautical engineering to create gravity-defying shapes.

And just last year, Seamless in Seattle finalist Caitlyn Petitclerc wowed us with her fanciful lingerie and I’m insanely curious how her viewpoint will translate to formal wear.

The designers, all students or representatives of area design schools, have only been allowed to work on their creations within set times at the studio (very Project Runway), working fast and furiously to create and fit their garments to their respective celebrity models. Local online site CliqVue TV has been following their progress in a series of intriguing YouTube videos full of sneak peek looks. Watch them all here—and don’t miss the extra video featuring a cute pooch.

Hope to see you tomorrow night, and even if you aren’t attending the show, dig back into your closet for your favorite red piece and show your support tomorrow for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign to end heart disease.
