It’s impossible to see images of the wreckage from Superstorm Sandy and not feel compelled to try and help.

But how?

How about a trip to NYC? You don’t even have to leave Seattle.

Shortly after Sandy left more than 100 dead and millions wondering where they’re going to live, Eric Tanaka – the executive chef and business partner at Tom Douglas Restaurants – started calling some chefs around the city, asking if they wanted to participate in a novel fundraiser next Tuesday, November 20th at 6pm at The Palace Ballroom, something that’s been dubbed “A New York State of Mind.”

Each participating chef will create a dish in tribute to one of their favorite restaurants in The Big Apple. How cool is that?

Dana Tough and Brian McCracken are making pastrami, as a loving nod to Katz Deli.

RN74 will make Chopped Chicken Liver & Matzo Crackers inspired by Russ & Daughters.

Esca’s awesome seafood lineup prompted Ethan Stowell Restaurants to bring its crudo to the table next week. (Love that stuff!)

Monsoon‘s going to simmer some Manhattan clam chowder and Hot Cakes is bringing chocolate egg creams.

Ma’Ono’s Mark Fuller and his wife, Marjorie, recently ate at Talde in Brooklyn, where the focus is on Asian fusion. So, chef Mark’s going to serve Hawaiian Bread Buns with Portuguese Sausage in Talde’s honor at this bash.

“We are grateful Tom Douglas and his team are helping us and other restaurants facilitate aid to New York by way of donating to Red Cross. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to be a part of something bigger to help people in dire need of help,” Fuller said.

All together, at least 13 restaurants are participating. Tini Bigs will be pouring Manhattans and there will be Columbia Crest wine and brews from Schooner Exact and Hilliard’s.

The goal is to raise $25,000 for The Red Cross, with 100 percent of the proceeds being donated.

During the fete, which runs between 6 and 10 p.m., there will be a short live auction, and one of the packages should bring in some big bucks. It’s a “hang out with Tommy D in NYC” package for up to 10 people. (You’ve got to get to the city on your own and pick up your own tabs, but the winner of the 2012 James Beard Restaurateur of the Year award is obviously gonna get y’all some VIP treatment!)

Tickets to the event are $75 and can be purchased online. Am I gonna see you there?
