The first weekend in May is traditionally a time to get your beans and beets in the ground, but it’s also when Seattle Tilth throws their huge Edible Plant Sale in Meridian Park behind the Good Shepherd Center in Wallingford. This year the sale is on May 4 and 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with an early bird sale on Friday, May 3 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.. Shoppers will find plants of all kinds available for purchase, including over 50 varieties of tomatoes, 20 types of peppers, edible flowers and other warm season crops like corn and berries. A full plant list is available on their website, along with shopping tips (this sale can be crazy busy, so arm yourself with a wagon or flats for carrying plants and leave your pooch at home) and info on their Gardens to Go program, the fastest way to shop, with conveniently pre-selected groups of plants you can pay for in advance and pick up on the way out.

And lastly, in case you haven’t heard, the weather this weekend, my friends, the weather will be sunny, in the 70s and the perfect time for planting your bounty.
