Holiday Gift Guide, Day 10: Soft Knits and Cuddly Creatures
Since my toes are still thawing out from my walk to the office this morning, I think it’s safe to state, “Baby it’s cold outside.” And since it is that glorious time of year to snuggle up by the fire and get warm and cozy with a book, I’m devoting today’s gift lineup to all things soft and cuddly.
Haute Goat’s hoot owls
Local EtsyRAIN organizer Heidi Kappes Belinsky’s lil’ “hOOt Owl” has a secret: Hidden behind this cock-eyed expression is a pocket, so you can tuck an iPod into your new hand-stitched, recycled cashmere friend.
Tuesday patterned cowl scarves
On Twitter this week, someone asked which of my gift recommendations I was actually pulling out my own credit card for; now is the time for all sisters and sisters-in-law to stop reading, since they are all getting these cute chunky cowl scarves from one of my favorite local Etsy sellers, Tuesday. Also, great news for last-minute shoppers: Rian Robison just opened her own shop in the International District for the holidays (pictured above with some of her cute wares), visit her at 608 Maynard Ave. South.
Lolide alpaca knit cowl
You may remember Lolide’s ring from an earlier appearance in the gift guide, but this multi-talented lady can also knit up a storm. Her cozy, warm alpaca wool cowl can be worn scrunched up like a scarf, a shawl, or even used as an impromptu head wrap (for truly wooly weather).
R&L Goods linen button scarf (pictured above)
I’m a sucker for pieces that multitask, and Ballard-based R&L Goods’ graphic print linen scarf multitasks with the best of them. A hand-sewn wooden button allows you to wrap around twice for a tight fit, or it can be worn as a long necklace-like wrap for a completely different look.
Helen Sharp hand-knit leg warmers
Seattle artist Helen Sharp has a way with a knitting needle, crafting each pair of her chunky rib knit, Oregon wool leggings to order for perfect fit.
